Chautauqua Facilities and Services Cooking Class Set Off Alarm at Turner Community Center

Turner Community Center was briefly evacuated a short time ago after some burned food set off the alarm during a cooking class. There was no damage or injury and the building is safe to occupy.

Ticket Agent No Longer Available at the Visitors Center

We are no longer able to have a ticket agent available at the Visitors Center on Bestor Plaza. The Main Gate Welcome Center Ticket Office is open daily from 7 a.m.–9 p.m. Information and Accommodations staff remain at the Visitors Center 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily.

Chautauqua Facilities and Services Gate Operations Update: Saturday, Aug. 13

South Gate will open at 3 p.m. today. The Turner walkthrough gate will be closed all day.

Weather/Environment and Road/Sidewalk/Walkway Conditions Authorized Early-Morning Drone Activity Friday, Aug. 12

Residents and patrons are advised that a licensed drone operator will be conducting an Institution-authorized flight early tomorrow morning to capture imagery for future use in Chautauqua communications and marketing. From 6:30 to 7 a.m., the flight will cover several routes between Institution property around the central portion of the grounds and waterfront.

The Chautauqua County Department of Health & Human Services has recommended that we close the beach at Boys' and Girls' Club, adjacent to Seaver Gym and the Boys' Club building, due to elevated bacteria levels. Children's Beach and Pier Beach at the Pier Building remain open.

Sports Club will open at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, July 28. Please note that boating services (e.g. kayaks, stand-up paddleboards or SUPs, canoes and paddle boat rentals) will be unavailable until Aug. 3.

Residents and patrons can visit the Gallery Café (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) or the Starbucks Coffee Gazebo (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) for breakfast needs. The Afterwords will reopen tomorrow.

    Weather/Environment and Road/Sidewalk/Walkway Conditions Water Shoes Recommended During Lake Use

    As you prepare to enjoy the lake and beach areas at Chautauqua, please know that zebra mussels are known to be in Chautauqua Lake and their shells can be sharp. Water shoes are recommended on shores and in waters off our beaches where you may be walking on the lake bottom. Chautauqua Institution sells water shoes (children and adult sizes) at the Sports Club.
